Sustainable Home Builders — Energy-Efficient Construction for SEQ’s Climate
Innovare Builders designs and constructs high-performance sustainable homes across Brisbane and the Gold Coast — homes that respond to South East Queensland’s subtropical climate, minimise energy consumption, and provide exceptional year-round comfort for their occupants.
Sustainability in residential construction is not a niche offering — it is an intelligent approach to building that benefits homeowners through lower running costs, improved liveability and higher long-term asset value.
Our Approach to Sustainable Design
Every home we build meets the National Construction Code’s Section J (Energy Efficiency) requirements at a minimum. Our sustainable homes go further — incorporating passive solar design principles, high-performance insulation, efficient mechanical systems and renewable energy generation.
Passive Solar Design We work with designers and architects to orient homes appropriately, size eaves and overhangs to exclude high summer sun while admitting low winter sun, maximise natural ventilation and cross-breezes, and specify thermal mass materials strategically.
Insulation and Building Envelope High-performance wall, ceiling and underfloor insulation dramatically reduces heating and cooling loads. We specify insulation products appropriate to Queensland’s climate zones and advise on vapour barrier requirements.
Glazing Performance Double-glazed and thermally broken window systems significantly reduce heat transfer through glazing — a major factor in Queensland’s tropical and subtropical climates. We specify and supply commercial-quality glazing systems for all our sustainable build projects.
Mechanical Efficiency Ducted reverse-cycle air-conditioning with zoning capability, heat pump hot water systems, and energy-recovery ventilation systems are standard recommendations in our sustainable build specifications.
Solar and Battery Integration
Innovare Builders installs solar photovoltaic systems as part of the construction programme, ensuring correct roof orientation, structural capacity and electrical infrastructure are designed in from the start rather than retrofitted.
We also integrate battery storage systems, EV charging infrastructure and smart energy monitoring as part of our solar package offerings.
GreenSmart and Certification
We are familiar with the Housing Industry Association’s GreenSmart program and other voluntary environmental rating systems including Green Star Homes and NatHERS energy ratings. We can advise on the certification pathway most appropriate for your project.
Materials and Waste
We specify materials with environmental credentials where these meet performance and aesthetic requirements — including recycled content products, FSC-certified timbers, and low-VOC paints, adhesives and sealants. We implement waste management plans on all construction sites to maximise recycling of construction waste.
Common questions
Does a sustainable home cost more to build?
High-performance insulation, double glazing and solar can add to upfront construction costs, but these are typically recovered through lower energy bills over the life of the home. We can provide lifecycle cost analysis to inform your decisions.
What NatHERS star rating do your homes achieve?
All our homes achieve at least the minimum 7-star NatHERS rating required by the current NCC. Higher-performance homes can achieve 8 or 9 stars with appropriate design and specification.
Can you incorporate a rainwater harvesting system?
Yes. Rainwater tanks, pressure pump systems and first-flush diverters are a standard option on our sustainable home projects.
Is passive house construction available in Queensland?
Yes, we can build to Passivhaus (passive house) standards or to equivalent performance levels using appropriate Australian design adaptations for Queensland’s subtropical climate.
